Afzalgunj

Afzal-ud-daulah, the V Nizam gifted land to grain-merchants for the purpose of trade and commerce. This land-gift was named after him as Afjzal-gunj.

This locality is situated on the Northern Banks of River Musi, between Begum Bazaar and Gowliguda - Jambagh.

The famous and historic State Central Library in its near-dilapidated state of existence, is the prominent feature of this area. The other being the famous and equally historic Osmania Hospital, an imposing building built by the Nizams, which once catered to the needs of sick but now which is now in a pretty bad shape due to lack of proper management.

Afzalgunj is a busy area dotted with small - small commercial establishments, majority of them being Tourist offices and general merchants.

Over-looking this area, on the Southern Banks of Musi, we can see the two architectural marvels of Nizam - era, the Andhra Pradesh High Court and the Salarjung Museum.

The Muslim Jung Bridge connects Afzal-gunj to the Old City.
